Museo Reina Sofia launches digital archive on Picasso's Guernica with 2,000 documents
In partnership with Telefonica, the Museo Reina Sofia has unveiled a complimentary website focused on Pablo Picasso's Guernica, which boasts the most extensive documentary collection related to the iconic artwork. Named 'Ripensare Guernica. Storia e conflitti del Ventesimo secolo,' the platform features approximately 2,000 documents sourced from over 6,000 items across 120 different archives. Created over a span of two years at a cost of €178,000, the site is divided into three sections: Cronologia, Itinerari, and GigaPixel, showcasing ultra-high-definition images from 2011. Included in the archive are official documents, photographs, letters, and a video of Picasso discussing his creation. Guernica was exhibited 45 times from 1937 to 1992, across more than 30 cities. Most content is not available for download or printing, catering to both scholars and the general public.
