Museo Novecento Florence Reopens with Allan Kaprow Show

The Museo Novecento in Florence has reopened its doors to the public with the exhibition "Allan Kaprow. I will always be a painter – of sorts," which originally opened on February 20, 2020, before being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The museum addressed visitors with a statement reflecting on how the global health emergency has altered habits and imposed physical distancing, which also affects the way people relate to artworks. It noted that Kaprow's "reinventions"—reinterpretations of his historical projects involving active spectator participation—have been adapted to comply with new health regulations. These reinventions were created for the occasion by a group of young artists. Kaprow, known as the father of environments and happenings, laid the groundwork for a new conception of the artwork, promoting a conceptual, utopian, political, and highly ironic practice. The museum invited visitors to reflect on how art is inextricably intertwined with life, emphasizing the relevance of Kaprow's lesson in the current moment.
