Museo Novecento Florence Announces Major Autumn Exhibitions
The Museo Novecento in Florence has unveiled a rich autumn exhibition program titled 'Effetto Novecento', coinciding with the third edition of Florence Art Week (September 29 – October 8). Mayor Dario Nardella praised the lineup, which includes shows at Palazzo Vecchio, Palazzo Medici Riccardi, and Museo Bardini. Opening on September 23, 'Beauty and Desire' features Robert Mapplethorpe's photographs, curated by Sergio Risaliti, Eva Francioli, and Muriel Prandato, in collaboration with the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation and Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia, juxtaposing his work with that of Wilhelm von Gloeden and Alinari archive images. From September 30, a solo show of British painter Cecily Brown presents over 30 works, mostly unseen, exploring the Temptations of St. Anthony, with a concurrent display at Palazzo Vecchio. On September 28, 'Cavalcata Fantastica' at Palazzo Medici Riccardi marks the first Florence exhibition of Futurist Fortunato Depero, featuring his 1932 masterpiece 'Nitrito in velocità'. Nico Vascellari continues his Florence residency with a video selection at the museum from December 8. On October 5, American artist Namsal Siedlecki's installation 'Endo' opens in the museum's cloister. Finally, on October 7, 'Split Face' presents the first Italian solo show of Nathaniel Mary Quinn, juxtaposing his grotesque portraits with Renaissance and 20th-century works, also involving Museo Stefano Bardini.
