Museo Novecento Firenze Announces 2021 Program with Jenny Saville, New Formats
The Museo Novecento in Florence, directed by Sergio Risaliti, has unveiled its 2021 program, featuring a major solo exhibition by British artist Jenny Saville (September 16, 2021 to February 13, 2022) with around 150 works across the museum, Palazzo Vecchio's Sala dei Gigli, Casa Buonarroti, and other venues. The program includes new formats: étoile (focusing on a single work from storage, starting March 22 with Titina Maselli's portrait of Greta Garbo paired with Ferragamo shoes), and WONDERFUL! (a prize for under-40 Italian artists with over 290 applications). The SOLO cycle continues with Arturo Martini (from June 15) and Leoncillo Leonardi (from October 29). The DUEL cycle presents Giulia Cenci's site-specific works in dialogue with Arturo Martini's sculpture (March 22 to June 6). The architecture series Paradigma features 20 female architects (March 22 to September 26). New initiatives include the museum's official magazine GONG, a curatorial course with the University of Florence, the Scuola del Pensiero Interdisciplinare, and collaborations with Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and FAF-Fondazione Alinari per la Fotografia. The museum will also host young artists from the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze in atelier spaces. Risaliti emphasized the museum's role as a center for experimentation and called for increased public and private funding.
