Museo Novecento buys black pages in Florence newspaper to protest Ukraine war
Museo Novecento in Florence purchased four full-page black advertisements in the newspaper La Nazione to protest the war between Russia and Ukraine. The pages feature only the words "NO WAR" as a sign of mourning and opposition. Director Sergio Risaliti stated the initiative expresses solidarity and responds to Italy's constitutional repudiation of war. The black color symbolizes the darkness of the current situation and the madness of war. Since the pandemic began, the museum's facade has displayed Claire Fontaine's neon work Siamo con voi nella notte, which Risaliti notes has become tragically relevant again. In the coming days, the museum will exhibit a large photograph by Alessandra Cinquemani taken during a peace demonstration in Piazza Signoria, showing the bust of Michelangelo's David replica surrounded by a crowd with peace flags. Risaliti emphasized that the protest filled the square and that the world is reacting against the folly of war.
