Museo Igor Mitoraj Opens in Pietrasanta with Director Frank Boehm

The Museo Igor Mitoraj opened in Pietrasanta on June 6, 2026, housed in a former municipal market designed by Tito Salvatori and renovated by OBR studio. The inaugural exhibition, 'Mitoraj. Present,' presents a selection of 69 works donated to the Fondazione Museo Igor Mitoraj, showcasing the complexity of the Polish sculptor's practice beyond his monumental works. Director Frank Boehm, former director of Miart and the Museum Insel Hombroich, aims to make Pietrasanta a permanent laboratory for sculpture, bridging contemporary art with local craftsmanship. The museum will host temporary exhibitions on the upper floor, while the lower level will eventually house the permanent collection. Future plans include residencies for young artists and curators, educational activities, and a sculpture garden. The collection, acquired by the Italian Ministry of Culture, was previously stored at the Certosa di Calci. Boehm emphasizes Mitoraj's postmodern fragmentation and contemporary relevance, and the museum's role as a public space for the community.
