Museo di Roma at Palazzo Braschi Reopens with Thematic Reinstallation

exhibition · 2026-05-05

The Museo di Roma at Palazzo Braschi unveils a radical reinstallation on March 29, shifting from a chronological to a thematic layout designed to center the visitor experience. The project, promoted by Roma Capitale with Zètema Progetto Cultura and guided by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina's Federica Pirani and museum curators, was conceived by Studio Visuale and Francesco Stefanori following a public tender. The new arrangement divides the museum into a 'public' path (second floor rooms 1–9, third floor rooms 16–19) and a more intimate 'private' path (second floor rooms 10–15, third floor room 20), reflecting the original 19th-century noble apartment layout of the Braschi family. A new Documentation Center on the ground floor offers free access to a database of the museum's collections and the Biblioteca del Museo. The reinstallation follows last year's lighting upgrade to the monumental staircase and the reinstallation of the 18th-century Chigi carriage in the atrium. The museum had recently gained attention with the major exhibition 'Artemisia Gentileschi e il suo tempo' (on view until May 7). The new approach, reminiscent of the Galleria Nazionale under Cristiana Collu, prioritizes the visitor over the object, with thematic routes that reference contemporary issues and provide immediate visual cues.
