Museo del Presente opens in Palermo dedicated to Falcone and Borsellino

The Museo del Presente, dedicated to anti-mafia judges Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino, opened on May 23, 2025, in Palermo's Palazzo Jung. The museum, conceived by the Fondazione Giovanni Falcone led by Maria Falcone, eschews traditional memorial rhetoric for a vibrant, design-forward space focused on civic engagement and legal culture. It features contemporary art and design elements from brands like Viabizzuno, Edra, and Plank, alongside a Galleria del Presente with artifacts including Falcone's agenda, a pen recovered from the Capaci bombing, and Borsellino's bicycle. A site-specific installation by Art Media Studio uses 967,000 pages symbolizing the Maxiprocesso. The Giardino della Memoria includes the wreckage of the Fiat Croma from the attack. The museum aims to become a hub for research on present-day issues and anti-mafia culture, with plans for a second location in Bressanone. Directors Alessandro De Lisi and Vincenzo Di Fresco emphasize international connections with Medellín, Marseille, and Berlin.
