Museo del Prado Reorganizes Goya Tapestry Cartoons and 18th-Century Collections
The Museo del Prado has revamped its 18th-century exhibitions, emphasizing Francisco de Goya's tapestry cartoons in rooms 85 and 90–94. Nearly all of the seven series created for the Princes of Asturias between 1775 and 1794/95 are on display, with the museum housing 50 of Goya's 57 cartoons; four are held in other collections, while three remain missing. The exhibition illustrates Goya's artistic development, featuring a comparison of a sketch by Bayeu and one of Goya's cartoons. On the second floor, visitors can find works by artists such as Corrado Giaquinto, Anton Raphael Mengs, and Thomas Gainsborough. Notable highlights include pieces from the Royal Hard Stone Workshop and a long-term restoration initiative by Fundación Iberdrola España, along with a newly launched microsite for 31 marble reliefs.
