Museo del Prado puts 12,000 archival documents online
The Museo del Prado has unveiled a digital archive comprising 12,000 documents that chronicle its 200-year legacy, available at https://archivo.museodelprado.es. Spearheaded by Maria Luisa Cuenca and Javier Pantoja, and supported by Fundación Telefónica, this archive features materials dating back to 1814, including letters, loans, donations, and photographs. It encompasses records from the Prado (established in 1819), the Museo de la Trinidad (which merged in 1872), and personal collections of notable individuals like Valentín Carderera (1796-1880) and Salvador Viniegra (1862-1915). The archive includes thematic sections on director correspondence, financial management, and the Civil War evacuation. Its emblem showcases a hand on an architectural sketch from Bernardo López y Piquer's portrait of Queen María Isabel de Portugal, with plans to eventually connect it to the museum's website.
