Museo del Prado Examines Italian Influence on Spanish Gothic Art
The Museo del Prado in Madrid is hosting a lecture series entitled 'A la manera de Italia. España y el gótico mediterráneo, 1320-1420,' scheduled from May 27 to June 6, 2026. This series coincides with an exhibition featuring over one hundred pieces, including paintings, sculptures, goldsmith works, illuminated manuscripts, drawings, embroidery, and silk textiles, many of which are seldom or never displayed. It investigates the significant influence of Italian Trecento aesthetics and techniques on the Iberian kingdoms’ visual culture from 1320 to 1420. Prominent Italian artists such as Ambrogio Lorenzetti and Gherardo Starnina are highlighted, alongside notable Spanish figures like Ferrer and Arnau Bassa. Lectures will address topics like hybridism (Joan Molina Figueras), Avignon's role (Mariaceleste Di Meo), and the 'Paris Psalter' (Mireia Castaño). Admission is free, with tickets available daily at 6:00 PM in the Prado auditorium; recordings will be accessible online afterward.
