Museo del Novecento's Edu900 Reflects on 10 Years and Pandemic Challenges
Edu900, the education department of Museo del Novecento in Milan, marks its 10th anniversary. Founded with the museum's opening in 2010, it aimed to make the museum accessible, welcoming, and a promoter of conscious citizenship. Over the decade, it collaborated with educational service concessionaires, associations, and local entities, fostering a trans-disciplinary dialogue with the community. The pandemic forced a sudden closure during a busy season of school activities and projects like 'Diritto alla bellezza,' an Italian L2 workshop for migrant and refugee women organized with Fondazione Empatia Milano. The department shifted to digital offerings, including summer C@mpus Homeline by Adartem, webinars, and the social campaign 'I custodi raccontano' featuring museum custodians. In November 2020, they launched KitEdu900 for primary school children, and the ongoing call 'Museo chiama scuola' aims to revive the museum-school alliance through an 'under10' path. Looking ahead, the planned expansion of the museum will allow Edu900 to rethink its activities toward a more 'diffuse' and interdisciplinary heritage education. The department's dream is to see the museum full again, especially with young visitors, and to continue developing consolidated projects while welcoming new initiatives.
