Museo del Genio di Roma reopens with Vivian Maier and Ugo Nespolo shows

exhibition · 2026-04-26

Starting October 31, 2025, the Museo del Genio in Rome will reopen as a cultural center with two ambitious exhibitions, thanks to a partnership between the Ministry of Defense, the Army, Difesa Servizi, and Arthemisia. The museum, officially named Istituto Storico e di Cultura dell'Arma del Genio, was built between 1936 and 1938 on Lungotevere della Vittoria in the Prati district. It houses collections of Italian military engineering, including a monoplane BLERIOT XI that flew in Libya in 1911, and artifacts from the Sardinian Kingdom to World War II. The reopening follows a summer 2024 cultural program promoted by Difesa Servizi and managed by Vivodimusica. The first exhibitions are a retrospective of American photographer Vivian Maier with over 200 prints (curated by Anne Morin, produced by Arthemisia, from a Vertigo Syndrome project) and a new project by Ugo Nespolo titled Pop Air, focusing on large inflatable sculptures. Both shows run until February 15, 2026. Tickets are already available online. The museum will be open daily except Mondays.
