Museo dei Racconti opens in abandoned mountain hamlet Paraloup

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

On September 5, the Museo dei Racconti (Museum of Stories) will open in the restored alpine hamlet of Paraloup, part of Rittana in the Valle Stura near Cuneo. The project is realized by Fondazione Nuto Revelli under the Migraction initiative co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund Interreg-Alcotra 2014-2020. Paraloup, at 1360 meters altitude, served as the base of the first Giustizia e Libertà partisan band from autumn 1943 to 1944, commanded by Duccio Galimberti, Dante Livio Bianco, and later writer Nuto Revelli. The museum is an extension of MUDRI (Museo diffuso di Rittana), which uses art to explore the territory. At its core is an interactive multimedia installation titled "Le stagioni di Paraloup," curated by Milanese studio NEO Narrative Environments Operas and Andrea Fenoglio. It guides visitors through four eras: late 19th-century alpine migrations, the Liberation struggle, the depopulation of the Alps, and the contemporary return to mountain life. The installation features voices of witnesses interviewed by Nuto Revelli. The foundation states the project aims to create a "living memory" and an example of sustainable development, using voices to break down prejudice and build bridges between generations.
