Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao Summer Course on Art Legacies and Donors

The Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao will host the seventh edition of its summer course from July 1 to 3, 2026, focusing on art legacies and donations. Organized with the Fundación Gondra Barandiarán, the course coincides with the museum's major expansion in 2026, which celebrates that over 60% of its collection comes from donations. Speakers include Miguel Zugaza (museum director), Barthélemy Etchegoyen Glama (Musée Bonnat-Helleu), Alfonso Palacio (Museo Nacional del Prado), Elena Martín (Fundación Museo Jorge Oteiza), Xavier Bray (The Wallace Collection), Miriam Alzuri (Museo de Bellas Artes de Bilbao), Daniel Vega (Faro Santander), Nuria de Miguel (Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado), and Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro (Museo Universidad de Navarra). Topics cover legacies by Léon Bonnat, Jorge Oteiza, Lady Wallace, Plácido Arango, Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, and María Josefa Huarte, as well as donations of libraries and archives by Xabier Sáenz de Gorbea and Juan Manuel Bonet and Monika Poliwka. The course also examines the role of museum friends' associations, using the Fundación Amigos del Museo del Prado as a case study. The event takes place at Auditorio Torre Iberdrola in Bilbao, with both in-person and streaming options. Registration closes June 22, 2026, with fees ranging from 80 to 170 euros. Certificates are issued by the University of Deusto.
