Museo Correale di Sorrento Reopens with New Blue Floor and Expanded Collection

After its winter hiatus, the Museo Correale di Sorrento has reopened, revealing an updated Piano Blu (Blue Floor) and an enhanced collection of the School of Posillipo, which now boasts 140 artworks. The museum, which will mark its centenary in 2024, originally opened on May 10, 1924, and features five floors, including an archaeological section, library, Sala Fondatori, noble floor, Sala degli Specchi, Stanza delle Meraviglie, and a third floor dedicated to European porcelain and maiolica. The Piano Blu focuses on still-life paintings, showcasing new pieces from artists like Andrea Belvedere and Aniello Ascione, alongside previously unseen works by Il Gigante and Achille Vianelli. Additionally, the museum introduced "Il suono dell'opera," a project by the Solis String Quartet, featuring 12 compositions inspired by the artworks, available through 5.1 technology on each floor. President Gaetano Mauro emphasized the reopening as part of the centenary celebrations and announced plans for a walkway to the Belvedere.
