Museo Casa di Dante in Florence launches 3D virtual tour for Dante Year

digital · 2026-04-27

The Museo Casa di Dante in Florence has launched a 3D virtual tour, making its spaces accessible online. The initiative, developed in collaboration with creative digital industry ETT, allows users to explore the museum's multimedia exhibition via smartphone, tablet, or PC. The tour, available in Italian and English, includes a virtual reality mode for smartphones using cardboard devices. Visitors are guided by a digital Dante, with a 3D model of his face in the first room. Subsequent rooms cover key events in Dante's life, including his role as a Guelph cavalryman at the Battle of Campaldino, and the political and economic context of Florence. The upper floor is dedicated to Italian literature and language, featuring Brunetto Latini, Dante's teacher, a reconstruction of Dante's bedroom, and a videomapping projection of the Divine Comedy with illustrations by Gustave Doré and William Blake. The museum's multimedia setup was inaugurated in June 2020. Cristina Manetti, President of the Museo Casa di Dante, stated that the virtual tour offers a cultural content that is timely and engaging for all ages, helping to overcome distances imposed by the pandemic. The tour is part of broader celebrations for the 700th anniversary of Dante's death in 2021, including Dantedì (March 25), the VR game "Dante VR | La Porta dell’Inferno" by Collegio San Carlo di Milano and Beyond the Gate, and a short film by Massimiliano Finazzer Flory.
