Museo Bagatti Valsecchi launches Tea Talks art conversation series

cultural-heritage · 2026-04-27

From February 28 to June 2024, Milan's Museo Bagatti Valsecchi will host a new series of six art conversations called Tea Talks. The program, conceived by director Antonio D'Amico, will be led by art historian and curator Susanna Gualazzini of Galleria Biffi Arte in Piacenza, alongside Aurora Ghezzi, the museum's head of archives, collections, and documentation. Each session runs from 5:30 to 7 PM and covers topics such as nature symbolism, portrait evolution, art forgery, and 19th-century collecting. Gualazzini will introduce each theme, while Ghezzi will connect them to works in the museum's collection. The initiative aims to highlight significant yet often overlooked details, reviving the 19th-century atmosphere of the palazzo between via Gesù and via Santo Spirito, echoing the vision of brothers Fausto and Giuseppe Bagatti Valsecchi. The museum, acquired by Regione Lombardia in 1975 and opened in 1994, is one of Europe's best-preserved house museums and an early example of Milanese design. Its collection includes paintings by Giovanni Bellini, Gentile Bellini, Giampietrino, and Lorenzo di Niccolò.
