Museo Afro Casa Silvana Presents 'The Afro Comb: A History of Identity and Resistance'
At Humacao's Museo Afro Casa Silvana, an exhibition titled 'The Afro Comb: A History of Identity and Resistance' will showcase over forty combs that reflect Black identity and resilience. This event, curated by Edwin Velázquez Collazo and Joyce De Jesús Martínez, is set to launch on 22 August 2026 and will be available for viewing until 14 November 2026. The display features artifacts from Baule, Gogo, Ashanti, Luba, Swahili, Bamum, Chokwe, and Bemba cultures, along with various photographs, stamps, books, and postcards. Highlighting the exhibit is the Black Fist Comb, a symbol of Black Power that was patented in the US in 1976. The opening coincides with the International Day for People of African Descent.
