Museion Bolzano Opens Renaissance and Other Summer Shows

Museion in Bolzano has launched a series of summer exhibitions, including Renaissance, curated by Leonie Radine, featuring 15 artists under 35 exploring identity, migration, and cultural stereotypes. The artists were selected through a competition funded by the Swiss Vordemberge-Gildewart Foundation and Museion. Winner Monia Ben Hamouda (b. 1991, Tunisian) received a 60,000 Swiss franc scholarship and her work enters the permanent collection. Her installation uses cut iron and spices to subvert Islamic iconographic prohibitions. Other works include Tobias Tavella's technology-mediated nature, Davide Stucchi's Arte Povera piano made of socks, and Sophie Lazzeri's ironic tarantata mythology. The exhibition Poetry in the Box showcases verbo-visual art from Anna Oberto and Ugo Carrega's assembling magazines (e.g., Tool), featuring contributions by Liliana Landi, Elisabetta Gut, Renato Barilli, and Bruno Munari. The installation recreates Carrega's Milan space Il Mercato del Sale, with boxes from the Mart's Archivio del Novecento and works from Museion's Archivio di Nuova Scrittura, donated by Paolo Della Grazia. On the ground floor, Piccolo Museion – Cubo Garutti pays homage to architect Alberto Garutti (d. 2023) with large-format photos by Roberta Segata, testimonials, and texts by Maddalena Fingerle. A monograph on Garutti by Studio Celant with research by Eva Fabbris, promoted by MAMbo, will be presented in August.
