Museion Bolzano Opens Dual Kinetic Art Shows for Medalla and Klien

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Museion in Bolzano has launched two exhibitions centered on kinetic art, featuring the works of David Medalla (1942–2020) and Erika Giovanna Klien (1900–1957). Director Bart van der Heide noted that significant transformation can occur without violence. The first exhibition, 'David Medalla. Parables of Friendship,' curated by Steven Cairns and Fatima Hellberg, marks the first retrospective of Medalla since his passing, highlighting over seventy years of his work focused on themes such as ecology, identity, and anti-colonialism, including the piece 'Cloud Canyons' (1988). The second exhibition, 'Bird Flight. Erika Giovanna Klien in dialogue with contemporary artistic positions,' curated by van der Heide, Andreas Hapkemeyer, and Brita Köhler, examines Klien's Cinetismo alongside modern artists. 'Parables of Friendship' is open until September 14, 2022, while 'Bird Flight' will be available until September 7, 2022.
