Museion Bolzano Announces 2016/2017 Season with New Prize for Young Artists

The Museion in Bolzano launches its 2016/2017 exhibition season on November 25 during the city's Long Night of Museums, featuring two major shows. 'La forza della fotografia' (through September 17, 2017) presents 100 works from the Museion collection exploring body, identity, and privacy. The inaugural edition of the Premio Museion awards four finalists—Verena Dengler, Sonia Kacem, Invernomuto, and Julia Frank—selected by an international jury from candidates proposed by directors of AMACI-associated Italian museums, eleven Swiss institutions, nine Austrian institutions, ar/ge kunst Kunstverein Bolzano, Merano Arte, and Museion itself. Their exhibition runs until March 12, 2017. The season also includes a solo show by Judith Hopf (September 30 to January 8, 2017), Lili Reynaud Dewar's 'Teeth, Gums, Machines, Future, Society' (January 27 to May 27, 2017), and Peter Friedl (May 27 to August 27, 2017). Director Letizia Ragaglia highlighted the success of Francesco Vezzoli's double exhibition project and aims to increase tourism engagement. The museum's exhibition budget for 2017 is approximately €460,000, lower than the exceptional €500,000+ in 2016 due to extraordinary funding.
