Museion Bolzano 2022 Program: Bird Flight, Medalla Retrospective, and Techno Humanities

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Museion Bolzano director Bart van der Heide has unveiled the 2022 program, structured around three pillars: exhibitions, Museion Academy, and Museion Art Club. The year opens on March 25 with Jorge Otero-Pailos's installation 'The Ethics of Dust' in the Museion Passage, featuring latex panels from the Alumix factory. Concurrently, 'Welcoming Persones Persons' previews the 8th Biennale Gherdëina, curated by Filipa Ramos and Lucia Pietroiusti, with works from the collection. From April 8, 'Bird Flight' honors Erika Giovanna Klien (1900-1957), a Viennese Kineticist, juxtaposing her bird works with artists like Fortunato Depero and Otto Piene. On April 9, 'Parables of Friendship' opens as the first major international retrospective of Filipino artist David Medalla (d. December 2020), co-organized with Bonner Kunstverein and the David Medalla Archive. On May 26, Ibrahim Mahama, winner of the 2021 Premio Pascali, gives a public lecture as part of his residency. From June 17, 'Walter Pichler. Architectural Sculpture' marks the tenth anniversary of the South Tyrolean artist-architect's death, focusing on his house project in Val d'Ega. Finally, on September 30, 'Kingdom of the Ill' launches the second chapter of the Techno Humanities series, curated by Sara Cluggish and Pavel S. Pys, addressing health, illness, and social justice through works by Carolyn Lazar, Lynn Hershman Leeson, and Nan Goldin.
