Musei Reali di Torino Unveils 2023 Renovations and Exhibitions

institutional · 2026-04-27

The Musei Reali di Torino, comprising Palazzo Reale, Galleria Sabauda, and Museo di Antichità, announced a major renovation and cultural program for 2023. Key projects include the restoration of the façade facing Piazza Castello, the redevelopment of the Giardini Reali with new lighting and plantings, and the restoration of the Baroque bastions. The most significant project is the recovery of the Serre Reali, 18th-century structures rebuilt after WWII bombings, which will become a modern services hub with conference spaces, classrooms, a restoration lab, and a storage depot, funded by €10 million from the PNRR and European funds totaling €18.3 million. A new ticket office opens in February, while underground welcome services debut in autumn. The 2023 exhibition calendar includes: 'Vivere sull'acqua' (Feb 16–Oct 31) on Bronze Age settlements in Piedmont; a Ruth Orkin retrospective (Mar 17–Jul 16), the largest in Italy; 'Rembrandt incontra Rembrandt' (until Apr 16); and 'A tu per tu con Leonardo' (Apr 7–Jul 9) displaying Leonardo da Vinci's autographs and the Codex on the Flight of Birds. The 'Estate Reale' summer program (Apr–Oct) features concerts, musical nights, and family events in the gardens, Cavallerizza, and Roman Theatre.
