Musée du Luxembourg to Show Warhol's Unknown Drawings in 2026

exhibition · 2026-04-24

From September 16, 2026 to January 10, 2027, the Musée du Luxembourg in Paris will present "Andy Warhol. La ligne et l'image," an exhibition focusing on Warhol's graphic production. It will feature nearly 150 drawings, ten paintings, silkscreens, photographs, and archival documents. The show is organized into five sections: "Excentricités, lieux communs" covers his early advertising illustration; "Abécédaires et b.a.-ba" explores the integration of text; "Visages et masques" examines his formative portrait work; "Erotica" reveals homoerotic works shared with close friends; and "Enfer et merveilles" addresses darker themes after the 1968 assassination attempt, including the Skulls series. The exhibition shifts attention to Warhol's intimate drawing practice, contrasting with the 1990 Centre Pompidou retrospective and the 2023 Fondation Louis Vuitton show "Basquiat x Warhol. À quatre mains."
