Musée Départemental Albert-Kahn Reopens in Boulogne-Billancourt April 2022

exhibition · 2026-04-27

The Musée Départemental Albert-Kahn will reopen on April 2, 2022, in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris. The museum, housed in a new building designed by architect Kengo Kuma, is set within a four-hectare park created by Albert Kahn in the late 19th century, which is classified as a French Historic Monument. The institution is owned by the Hauts-de-Seine department and aims to be a multidisciplinary hub with three core missions: image education with a social focus, attention to plants and living beings through its garden, and deep local anchoring in Boulogne-Billancourt as a campus for experimentation. At reopening, it will feature a permanent immersive exhibition of photographic, cinematographic, and botanical collections, alongside the inaugural temporary show "Intorno al mondo. L'incrocio delle immagini, da Albert Kahn a Curiosity," which explores the origins of the Archives of the Planet—a project that amassed 72,000 color photographs and 183,000 meters of film over 22 years. The museum's architecture incorporates the Japanese concept of engawa, blending interior and exterior spaces.
