Musée Carnavalet Opens 'Paris à l'arraché' on Jacques Villeglé and Urban Art in 2026
From 14 October 2026 to 14 February 2027, the Musée Carnavalet – Histoire de Paris will present the exhibition “Paris à l’arraché. Jacques Villeglé et l’art urbain,” marking the centenary of Jacques Villeglé. Villeglé, who was born in Quimper on 27 March 1926 and passed away in Paris on 6 June 2022, gained recognition for his technique of extracting torn posters, which formed a distinctive visual style. The exhibition includes his writings, photographs, sound recordings, and previously unpublished materials. After relocating to Paris in 1950, he collaborated with various artists and poets, perceiving the city as his creative workspace. His artistic journey spanned almost seventy years, including partnerships with artists like Lek & Sowat. Curators Valérie Guillaume, Émilie Gandon, and Jennifer Heim oversee the exhibition, with a catalogue published by Éditions Paris Musées.
