Muschio: Immersive Installation Recreates Forest Floor Forms in Venice
On the closing week of the Venice Architecture Biennale (ended November 23, 2025), the Fondazione Giorgio e Armanda Marchesani in Venice opened 'Muschio,' an exhibition featuring works by Celina Spelta and Elena Sellerio, curated by Claudia Zanfi. The artists explore the forms of the undergrowth, specifically moss and micro-organisms, through an immersive installation that examines the relationship between art, forest, humans, and nature. The installation in the foundation's limonaia recreates a moss meadow with its micro-organisms, while the gallery displays large-format photographs of forests, accompanied by Haiku poems and painted papers using vegetable dyes that evoke natural, dreamlike, and imaginary environments. Moss, an ancient presence on Earth, performs important ecological functions such as retaining water and nutrients, contributing to biodiversity, and activating photosynthesis to produce oxygen. It is also considered an element that can rebalance the nervous system, nourishing and strengthening positive energy of mind and body.
