Mus.e Report 2016: Investing in Culture Yields 3x Return in Florence

Mus.e, the association managing Florence's civic museums and cultural projects, published its 2016 activity report showing significant economic and social returns. For every euro invested, three euros were generated, with a net present value of €1.9 million on €1 million investment. Despite a decline in overall museum visitors, public engagement with Mus.e's services grew: 87,000 people participated in cultural mediation activities (up from 76,000 in 2015), and guided tours at Palazzo Vecchio and civic museums increased. The Jan Fabre exhibition attracted over 175,000 visits. Web visibility surged, with an 81% increase on musefirenze.it and 51% growth across social media. The report highlights a shift toward quality cultural experiences, with growth across age groups. Le Murate contemporary art projects reached 14,000 people, a 46% increase. The Social ROI calculation measured economic, social, and environmental impact, underscoring the value of cultural investment.
