Murano Glass Toys: Playable Sculptures at Museo del Vetro
The Museo del Vetro di Murano presents 'Murano Glass Toys', an exhibition running until October 3, 2021, featuring thirteen oversized glass toys created by master glassmakers. Curated by architect Matteo Silverio with interactive contributions from visual artist Martin Romeo, the show transforms the Sala Brandolini into a playroom where visitors can physically interact with the works. The pieces range from traditional toys like a rocking horse and a carousel to modern ones such as a two-meter-tall rocket and a 37-meter racetrack for remote-controlled cars. Most installations are equipped with pressure, proximity, or motion sensors that animate the glass objects: pinwheels spin, a mirror dinosaur 'speaks', the rocket lights up when entered, and a Hoberman sphere opens and closes like breathing. A gaming chair, developed with advanced 3D printing technology, allows users to control electric cars on the track while watching a large monitor. The technological backbone includes 3D modeling software and additive manufacturing, with the Delta 3MT printer from technical partner WASP enabling the creation of large-scale objects.
