Murano Glass Street Art: Glass Masters Collaborate with Street Artists for Venice Glass Week 2019
During The Venice Glass Week 2019 (September 7–15), the Murano Glass Street Art project brought together master glassmakers from 14 Murano companies and eight street artists to create a unique fusion of traditional glassblowing and urban art. The artists—Alessio-b, Cento Canesio, Joys, Made514, Tony Gallo, Orion, Zero Mentale, and Vesod—painted large murals inside the Effetre Murano furnace in July, while glass masters produced one-of-a-kind glass pieces inspired by the artists' styles, colors, and patterns. The project was promoted by Consorzio Promovetro Murano and coordinated by Padua gallerist Carlo Silvestrin. The murals were painted using Airlite paints, which purify the air by removing 88.8% of pollutants, neutralize odors, eliminate 99.9% of bacteria, and repel dust. The exhibition at Fornace Effetre Murano (Fondamenta S. Giovanni Dei Battuti 4/A, Murano) was free and open during the festival, with guided tours by Artsystem operators. From September 16 to 30, visits were by reservation only. The initiative aimed to highlight color as a key feature of Murano glass and to promote the Vetro Artistico Murano trademark with a contemporary, international language.
