Murano Glass and the Venice Biennale: 1948-1958 Exhibition at LE STANZE DEL VETRO

The exhibition '1948-1958. Vetro di Murano e la Biennale di Venezia' at LE STANZE DEL VETRO on San Giorgio Maggiore, Venice, runs until November 22, 2026. Curated by Mariano Barovier, it explores the post-war renaissance of Murano glass through 160 works from the first decade after WWII, when the Biennale resumed in 1948. The show highlights collaborations between artists and master glassblowers from historic furnaces like Venini, AVEM, Barovier & Toso, Seguso Vetri d'Arte, and S.A.L.I. Key artists include Fulvio Bianconi, Paolo Venini, Ercole Barovier, Flavio Poli, Dino Martens, Alfredo Barbini, Archimede Seguso, and spatialist Vinicio Vianello. Vianello's 'Torri vegetali' and milleocchi glass, featured in Domus magazine, exemplify the fusion of tradition and innovation. The space, designed by Annabelle Selldorf Architects, opened in 2012 through a partnership between Fondazione Cini and Pentagram Stiftung. The exhibition traces the evolution of functional objects into sculptural artworks, reflecting the 'organicist' design culture of Italy's economic boom.
