Mundus Muliebris: Fashion as Ornament in Rome
In Rome, the group exhibition 'MM – Mundus Muliebris' at CURA.BASEMENT brings together artists Than Hussein Clark, Patrizio Di Massimo, and George Henry Longly. Curated by Nicoletta Lambertucci, the show runs until June 17, 2016. The title, Latin for 'ornament,' frames fashion as art without utility. The artists collaborated with various fashion houses and designers to produce ornamental objects—shoes, bags, hats—whose meaning depends on context. The exhibition explores the interrelations between objects, drawing on Wittgenstein's concept of family resemblance. The project also launches a new brand, MM, blurring the line between art and fashion. The tone is irreverent: 'no message to deliver,' a 'disastrous' result, and an opportunity for relational aesthetics among the three artists.
