MUNDI (Museo nazionale dell'italiano) has inaugurated its first two rooms in Florence's Santa Maria Novella complex, with full opening expected in 2024. The museum, funded by the Italian Ministry of Culture with €4 million, aims to celebrate the Italian language as a global cultural force. The temporary exhibition runs from July 7 to October 6, 2022, featuring manuscripts, multimedia installations, and the Placito di Capua (960 AD), considered the birth certificate of Italian. The museum will occupy two levels of the former Monastero Nuovo, with 15 rooms totaling about 1,000 sqm. The architectural team includes Valentina Carnevali, Francesca Condò, Massimo Occupati, and Alessia Carmela Rotondo. Future plans include a foundation for management, temporary exhibitions on topics like language and cuisine, dubbing, and opera, as well as educational activities. The project is supported by the Municipality of Florence, Accademia della Crusca, Accademia Nazionale dei Lincei, Treccani, ASLI, and Società Dante Alighieri.
