Munch Documentary Film to Screen in Italian Cinemas November 7-9

The documentary 'Munch. Amori, fantasmi e donne vampiro' will be released in Italian cinemas from November 7 to 9, 2022, distributed by Nexo Digital. Directed by Michele Mally and written by Arianna Marelli, the film features Norwegian actress Ingrid Bolsø Berdal as a guide through Edvard Munch's life and work. Produced by Didi Gnocchi for 3D Produzioni and Franco Di Sarro for Nexo Digital, the documentary explores Munch's complex personality, his ties to Nordic landscapes, and his vast oeuvre beyond 'The Scream'. It includes visits to Munch's house in Åsgårdstrand, Norway, and locations in Germany and Sweden. The film incorporates readings from Munch's writings by Berdal and insights from curators at the Munch Museum and biographer Sue Prideaux. Mally and Marelli, who previously collaborated on 'Klimt e Schiele, Eros e Psiche', emphasize Munch's theoretical coherence and modern vision, challenging the simplified view of him as mad or morbid. They highlight his repetitive yet evolving imagery, his interest in occultism and friendships with Strindberg, Nietzsche, and Ibsen, and his profound reflections on life, death, and emotion. The documentary aims to reveal lesser-known masterpieces and Munch's literary output, with a database of his writings available at the Munch Museum.
