Multiple art events and exhibitions highlighted across New York and beyond
Margaret Grimes is well-known for her unique artistic representations of Connecticut and Maine, particularly her fresh perspective on New England landscapes. Last fall, a sculpture made in Germany during 1964-1965 was displayed at Zürcher Gallery. The Brooklyn Rail invited artcritical to join the New Social Environment Zoom series, moderated by David Cohen, featuring three mini-panels that will review four exhibitions in honor of The Review Panel's 17th anniversary. Although Lennart Anderson, who died in 2015, faced challenges with macular degeneration that limited his output, he continued to work in his studio daily. David Cohen will also lead a silent auction at the virtual gala for the New York Studio School, offering various artworks for online bidding. In both Houston and New York, Howard Sherman, an MFA grad from the University of North Texas in 2006, has gained popularity for his abstract art. This summer, he had his first New York show in ten years at Luhring Augustine. Dee Shapiro organized an exhibition at Grammercy Square featuring artists like Laura Karetzky and Judith Linhares, merging modernism with classical elements. In Williamsburg, James Esber displayed flags encouraging voting, while Brenda Zlamany created double-sided masked flags. Despite COVID-19 hurdles, Jennifer Riley successfully opened a solo exhibition at 1GAP Gallery in the Richard building.
