Multigenerational memory as a design framework from Peru's Sacred Valley

This article marks the third part of a series examining design insights from Reclaiming Value, a four-day experience in Peru's Sacred Valley hosted by Murmur Ring. The author, who holds dual citizenship in Colombia and the US, emphasizes that design should prioritize multigenerational memory over mere innovation. She introduces a 'Breath of Life' Immersion Framework, inspired by Indigenous teachings from the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Siksika (Blackfoot) perspectives, and Kānaka Maoli values. Notable references include the Haudenosaunee's Seventh Generation Value and the Siksika's Cultural Perpetuity model, alongside Awamaki's efforts to link Andean weavers with global markets. The immersion featured visits to MIL Centro, established by chefs Virgilio Martínez and Pía León, and Awamaki. The author's ongoing project, the Global Eahou Immersion with Purple Maiʻa Foundation, seeks to implement these concepts while critiquing Western institutions for exploiting Indigenous knowledge, referencing the Haudenosaunee Great Law of Peace's impact on the US Constitution.
