Multidisciplinary Photography in Italy: A History Unwritten

This article delves into the realm of multidisciplinary photography in Italy, focusing on the 'Incompiuto Siciliano' initiative by Alterazioni Video, which began in 2007 with Gabriele Basilico. This project aimed to document incomplete public works in Giarre, conceptualized as an 'Archaeological Park of the Unfinished.' While it involved various artists and scholars, it challenged traditional scientific methods through performative elements. It gained recognition at the 2010 Venice Architecture Biennale and in notable publications such as Abitare and Domus. Since the 1990s, Italian architectural studies have increasingly engaged with globalization, resulting in projects like Solid Sea at Documenta 11. Yet, the emerging generation of photographers remains relatively unrecognized, as highlighted by the Monditalia exhibition at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale.
