Mulino Factory Opens in Milan's Historic 1929 Mill as Creative Hub with Hotel by Tom Dixon

architecture-design · 2026-04-17

The Mulino Factory has been inaugurated at Via Aosta 2 in Milan, converting a 1929 industrial mill into a vibrant creative space. Spearheaded by Ludovica Virga, the granddaughter of Salvatore Virga, who owned the mill in 1955, the facility opens just before Milan Design Week 2026. Designed by engineer Cesare Chiodi in collaboration with Gio Ponti, this venue encourages a co-living atmosphere for innovative partnerships. Among its residents are artist Lola Montes Schnabel and architect Sofia Albrigo, along with businesses like Cashberry and Tyger Gym. Renovated by Studio Uao, it will include a twelve-room hotel managed by Tom Dixon, set to debut after Salone del Mobile 2026, while honoring its industrial legacy and drawing inspiration from Andy Warhol's Factory.
