Muh Shoou Zhujing Opens as a Design-Led Escape Near Shanghai

architecture-design · 2026-04-26

Muh Shoou Zhujing, a 65-key design hotel, opened earlier this month in Zhujing, a water town in Shanghai's Jinshan district. It is the second property under the Muh Shoou brand, following Muh Shoou Xixi Hotel in Hangzhou. Designed by Group of Architects (GOA), headed by Zhang Xiaoxiao, who is also co-founder of Muh Shoou, the hotel emphasizes conviviality with compact common areas, private courtyards, and standalone bathhouses. General manager Alex Li, a veteran of Aman, Four Seasons, and Hyatt, is working for a local brand for the first time. The architecture avoids literal Chinese motifs, drawing from classical garden traditions to create changing scenery. The hotel targets China's wealthy urbanites and international travelers seeking a quieter stay.
