Mudam Luxembourg's 'A Model' exhibition interrogates museum politics through collection works and new commissions
Mudam Luxembourg is showcasing 'A Model,' a three-part exhibition curated by Bettina Steinbrügge that explores the role of public art institutions. The first segment, featuring Rayyane Tabet's 'prelude,' debuted in late 2023. This is followed by a second phase that integrates pieces from the museum's collection alongside new commissions, culminating in Jason Dodge's 'Epilogue' set for April 2024. Drawing inspiration from Palle Nielsen's 1968 exhibition 'Modellen,' 'A Model' offers a critique of the power dynamics within museums. Tabet's installation includes net curtains, deep blue skylights, and furniture by Alvar Aalto, complemented by a guidebook reflecting Beirut's history. Additional contributions come from Oscar Murillo, Anna Boghiguian, and Isaac Julien. The exhibition will be on view until September 8, 2024.
