Mudam Luxembourg Opens Three Major Exhibitions

exhibition · 2026-04-24

The Mudam (Musée d'Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean) in Luxembourg is currently hosting three concurrent exhibitions, as reported by Richard Leydier in artpress. Designed by Ieoh Ming Pei and inaugurated in 2006, the museum features a retrospective of German artist Charlotte Posenenske (1930–85), organized in collaboration with Dia Beacon and Macba, curated by Clément Minighetti. Posenenske's work includes industrial modules and reconstructions in cardboard and galvanized steel, such as ventilation-like tubes resembling totems. The exhibition runs until January 10, 2021. Portuguese artist Leonor Antunes (born 1972) presents a suspended installation of steel, rope, and leather chains in the adjacent glass-roofed space, with a floor piece referencing Lygia Clark, on view until April 5, 2021. Thomas Hirschhorn's large-scale installation 'World Airport' (1999), originally shown at the Venice Biennale, occupies a full room with panels and a tarmac featuring stationary papier-mâché aircraft, on display until March 7, 2021. The museum also presents works from its collection. Leydier notes the contrast with French museums closed due to COVID-19, and observes that Hirschhorn's piece resonates with current travel restrictions.
