Mucha Museum to Open in Baroque Prague Palace in 2025

exhibition · 2026-04-26

The Mucha Museum will open on February 24, 2025, in the Baroque Palazzo Savarin (also known as Palazzo Sylva-Taroucca) near Wenceslas Square in Prague. The museum, spanning over 1,100 square meters, will house collections previously held by the Mucha Foundation, including the monumental cycle 'Slav Epic'—20 canvases created between 1910 and 1928 depicting Slavic myths and history, donated by the artist to the city of Prague. The renovation of the palace, initiated in 2021 by the company Crestyl in collaboration with Heatherwick Studio, aims to transform the site into a cultural hub featuring cafes, restaurants, green areas, and a multi-purpose space for cultural events. The museum's exhibition design is curated by architect Eva Jiřičná, who emphasized the harmony between the 18th-century style of the palace and Mucha's work. Marcus Mucha, great-grandson of Alfons Mucha and executive director of the Mucha Foundation, stated that the new venue aims to attract not only tourists but also Czechs, becoming a sought-after destination. The palace will be connected to Wenceslas Square via Na Příkopě, Jindřiška, and Panská streets, with a new square built around the former riding school, including a garden, bar, and restaurant, plus a new entrance to the metro.
