Mucciaccia Gallery launches first cloud streaming 3D Yayoi Kusama show

exhibition · 2026-04-27

On July 28, 2020, Mucciaccia Gallery launched a Yayoi Kusama exhibition in cloud streaming 3D, developed by Milan-based startup Wide VR. The show presents works from the 1950s to 2007, including three large sculptures from Kusama's 2004 'Kusamatrix' exhibition at the Mori Art Museum in Tokyo, which drew over one million visitors. This is the first application of cloud streaming to a virtual exhibition, using remote data center computing power to stream high-quality 3D content in real time on any device. Edoardo Graziadei of Wide VR explained that unlike standard web-based 3D virtual shows limited to a few dozen megabytes, cloud streaming runs a high-performance PC app (weighing several gigabytes) on a supercomputer, streamed like Netflix, enabling superior quality. The exhibition is accessible until August 31 on Mucciaccia Gallery's website. Mucciaccia Gallery, founded in 2006 by Massimiliano Mucciaccia, has locations in Rome, Cortina, London, New York, and Singapore. The pandemic accelerated the virtualization of galleries, with David Zwirner, Larry Gagosian, and Oliver Miro also developing digital platforms. Massimo De Carlo earlier opened a virtual space via Wide VR.
