MSGM Fall/Winter 2023 show at Politecnico di Milano's brutalist architecture faculty
During Milan Fashion Week 2023, Massimo Giorgetti's MSGM presented its Fall/Winter 2023 collection, titled 'MSGM Dreamers University,' inside the brutalist Faculty of Architecture building of Politecnico di Milano, designed by Vittoriano Viganò and Fabrizio de Miranda. The show opened with Italian singer-songwriter gIANMARIA reading a passage from 'Dead Poets Society' about poetry and passion, which inspired Giorgetti. The collection reinterprets stripes, madras, and micro-checks in a hyper-contemporary way, blending formal and informal elements: tailored pieces with cargo pants, V-neck sweaters with joggers, coach jackets, Oxford shirts, and ties, alongside American sportswear references like quarterback hoodies, baseball jerseys, and color-block triacetate garments. Glitter, bold patterns, and bright reds and pinks dominate, with heraldic symbols, crests, and gaming motifs from the 1980s and 1990s. A mascot appears on puffers, sweaters, and vests. Giorgetti, born in Longiano in 1977, trained in his uncles' embroidery workshop and worked in retail before founding MSGM in 2009. The brand reflects his childhood embroideries and Milan's streetwear and underground culture, with strong markets in China, Japan, and South Korea. The collection represents a transition from adolescence to adulthood, maintaining a nostalgic, retro world for the modern man.
