Mrdjan Bajic's Unreliable Narrator Survey at MoCAB Belgrade

The Museum of Contemporary Art Belgrade (MoCAB) presents 'Unreliable Narrator', the first major retrospective of Serbian artist Mrdjan Bajic (b. 1957, Belgrade). Curated by Miroslav Karić, Alexandra Mirčić, and Žaklina Ratković, the exhibition spans nine thematic sections across the museum's five levels, tracing Bajic's career from the 1980s to recent works like 'Monument' (2019-22), 'One arm Cosmonaut and One Leg Statue' (2020-22), 'Guardami con gli occhi di Apollo' (2019-22), 'Born in a House Sings la la la' (2020-22), and 'Privatna istorija' (2020-22). The show opens outdoors in the Šumarice park in Kragujevac with 'Brandeburg Gate' (2020-22) and the colossal 'Bring me Back' (2020-22), the latter featuring a horse's head from the Parthenon's Selene sculpture (now at the British Museum) attached to a double-decker London bus, satirizing postcolonial restitution. Inside, 'Privatna istorija' incorporates 13 heads—from Neolithic Vinča, ancient Greece, Easter Island, Mexico, Africa, Cyclades, Sumerian Uruk, and artists Donatello, Giacometti, Picasso, plus Mickey Mouse—mounted on a silhouette of Bajic's body after losing 23 kg during a hospitalization. The exhibition runs until January 23, 2023, at MoCAB, Ušće 10, Block 15, Belgrade.
