Mr. Savethewall's 'Elogia MMXXV' Opens at Musec Lugano

The Musec in Lugano presents 'Elogia MMXXV', a solo exhibition by street artist Mr. Savethewall (Pierpaolo Perretta, born 1972 in Como). The show features 38 portraits of modern and contemporary artists, including Lucio Fontana, Frida Kahlo, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, On Kawara, Sophie Calle, Barbara Kruger, and Carla Badiali. Mr. Savethewall, known for his sustainable approach using panels instead of directly painting walls, employs spray paint and stencils in a painterly manner. His method involves simplifying faces into black silhouettes, then layering colored symbols and signs that reference each artist's style. The project developed through dialogue with Musec director Paolo Campione and curator Massimiliano Vitali, which the artist credits for avoiding a mere stylistic exercise. The exhibition title references the Giovio portrait collection at the Civic Museums of Como. Notable works include a double portrait of Egon Schiele with a psychoanalytic alter ego, a split Modigliani requiring his muse, and a Warhol effigy that echoes his own transformation into an iconic figure. The exhibition runs until October 19, 2025.
