Mr. Brainwash Opens His Own Street Art Museum in Los Angeles
Mr. Brainwash (Thierry Guetta, born 1966 in Garges-lès-Gonesse, France) is opening a pop-up museum dedicated to himself in Los Angeles. He will lease the former Paley Center for Media in Beverly Hills, designed by architect Richard Meier in 1996, for the temporary space. The museum will launch with an exhibition of his own works, followed by solo and group shows featuring other artists. Guetta described the project as a dream come true, comparing himself to a pressure cooker about to explode. The space will have a soft opening for private events, but part of the exhibitions will be free and open to the public. Mr. Brainwash rose to fame after collaborating with Banksy on the Oscar-nominated film Exit Through the Gift Shop (2010). He had his first solo show in Los Angeles in 2008, designed Madonna's album cover for Celebration in 2009, and has since worked with brands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Coca Cola, Hublot, Mercedes-Benz, DJ Khaled, and Michelle Obama. In 2019, Deodato Arte gallery in Milan hosted his first Italian solo exhibition, Milan is beautiful, featuring over 100 works. In 2018, he organized a pop-up show in New York with neon lights, paintings, sculptures, and various objects.
