MPs Demand Answers from Channel 4 Over MAFS UK Rape Allegations

A coalition of Members of Parliament has reached out to Channel 4 and Ofcom, seeking clarification regarding alarming claims associated with the reality series Married at First Sight UK. A BBC Panorama investigation featured testimonies from two women who reported being raped by their husbands on the show, along with a third woman who accused a partner of a non-consensual sexual act. The Culture, Media and Sport Committee in the House of Commons, chaired by Caroline Dinenage MP, has posed questions about the broadcaster's response and the complaints process for participants. Additionally, they inquired about the duty of care in other reality shows. Ofcom was asked about its complaint handling, investigatory powers, and the timeline for its own inquiry. Channel 4 has initiated an external welfare review, with CEO Priya Dogra emphasizing the broadcaster's prompt and sensitive actions. Meanwhile, CPL's lawyers praised their welfare system as exemplary. The Metropolitan Police has not received any criminal reports but plans to reach out to production teams to ensure victims are aware of reporting options.
