Moza Almatrooshi's Bee Interventions at Sharjah Biennial 15

Moza Almatrooshi, born in Dubai in 1991 and raised in Ajman, now lives and works in Sharjah. For the 15th Sharjah Biennial, she enriched the 'Smile, you are in Sharjah' roundabout with sweet-smelling plants, which have drawn more bees. This project is linked to the Old Al Jubail market, where two active hives from the Beekeeper's Association are located, along with a public workshop to highlight the dangers imported bees pose to UAE's native species. Almatrooshi's ongoing work, The Agriculture School (2022), pushes the boundaries of conceptual art. She holds a BFA from Zayed University and an MFA from London's Slade, where she began her culinary career. Inspired by the 2018 film To Whom The Sun May Be of Concern, she later trained at the Beekeepers Association and produced the film There is an Edible Gold (2021) for Art Jameel. At Art Dubai 2023, she showcased The Alphabetics of the Baker, dedicating hours to kneading dough. The Agriculture School was first shown at 421 in Abu Dhabi, featuring local photos and a mural of a dried spring.
